Molecular identification and characterization of endophytic bacteria from root of chamaecrista rotundifolia growing on the nigerian air force shooting range, kaduna.

Chamaecrista rotundifolia is one of the few plant species growing on heavy metal-contaminated Nigerian Air Force shooting range, Kaduna. This microbially unexplored plant species can have microbial association with endophytes. This study was aimed at isolating, identifying and characterizing endophytic bacteria associated with the roots of Chamaecrista rotundifolia growing on the Nigerian Air Force shooting range, Kaduna. The identification of the endophytic bacteria was done using standard biochemical methods and 16S rRNA sequencing analysis. The isolates were then screened for antibiotic resistance, plant growth promoting properties and heavy metal tolerance using standard techniques.  Varied concentrations of heavy metal salts (Pb2+, Cr3+, Ni2+ and Mn2+) were used to test the isolates for their heavy metal tolerance. Four endophytic bacteria isolated from the roots of C. rotundifolia were Aerococcus viridans, Peribacillus simplex, Staphylococcus simplex and Pseudomonas aeruginosa. Results on antibiotic sensitivity test revealed that the four isolates were resistant to most of the antibiotics. The isolates possessed plant growth promoting properties by showing positive results for Indole-3-acetic acid (IAA) production, 1-aminocyclopropane-1-carboxylic (ACC) deaminase activity and phosphate solubilizing. Results also revealed that the isolates showed some degree of tolerance to the heavy metals. The tolerance of both A. viridans and P. simplex to chromium and manganese showed significant difference (p<0.05) across all the concentration levels of the metal salts. It is therefore concluded that Chamaecrista rotundifolia growing on Nigerian Air Force shooting range, Kaduna, is associated with endophytic bacteria which could be the reason the plant species thrive in heavy metal-contaminated site.
  
  

Diversity of endophytic bacteria in different tissues of sengon (Falcataria moluccana)

Endophytes are endosymbionts, usually bacteria or fungi, that live inside plants without causing disease. Endophytes are available in all plant species and play a role in enhancing plant resistance to insects, pathogens, and herbivores, increasing host growth, nutrient uptake, and increasing plant tolerance to abiotic stresses such as drought. The endophyte's ability to do all that is a result of the production of biological components or secondary metabolites, which may be the result of co-evolution or genetic transfer between endophytic microorganisms and host plants. In this study, the isolation, characterization and identification of endophytic bacteria from several different plant organs of sengon (Falcataria moluccana (Miq.) Barneby & J.W. Grimes) was carried out using the plant piece method in nutrient agar medium, and identification of selected isolates was carried out based on 16S rRNA. 16S rRNA sequencing results showed that 31 endophytic bacterial communities were successfully isolated from various parts of the sengon tree. Bacteria isolated from the stem were 3 strains, bark 7 strains, leaves 11 strains, and galls 10 strains. Molecular identification and phylogenetic analysis showed that the endophytes on the stem were Curtobacterium citreum and C. luteum, respectively. The endophytic bacteria on the bark are C. herbarum, C. luteum, C. pusillum, C. citreum and Azotobacter chroococcum. The endophytic bacteria on the leaves are A. chroococcum, C. citreum, C. herbarum and Lysinibacillus sphaericus. The endophytic bacteria in the gall are Enterobacter ludwigii, Kosakonia radicincitans, Citrobacter gizzii and Erwinia endophytica.

Isolation and identification of endophytic bacteria and associated compound from Gloriosa superba and their antibacterial activities

Gloriosa superba L., which belongs to the genus Gloriosa and family Colchicaceae, is a climbing annual herb and tuberous poisonous tropical medicinal plant. This study was aimed to isolate possible endophytic bacteria from leaves, stems and tubers of Gloriosa superba. Thirty pure endophytic bacteria were isolated and subjected to biochemical characterization. Bacterial identification was conducted by Matrix-assisted laser desorption/ionization time-of-flight mass spectrometry (MALDI-TOF MS). The structure of the isolated compound was characterized. The antibacterial activity was also evaluated. Majority (21, 70 %) of the isolates were Gram-positive. Certain of them are spore formers. Based on MALDI-TOF MS, 26 of the isolates were identified as Bacillus spp. (65.4 %), Escherichia spp. (30.8 %) and Providencia spp. (3.9 %). A 1-undecene was isolated from culture filtrate of E. coli (GST-5). The ethyl acetate extracts (1000 μg/mL) of GSL-5 and GST-2 culture filtrates recorded maximum inhibition zone against E. coli (9.4 ± 0.6 mm) and S. aurous ATCC 25923T (8.4 ± 0.8 mm), respectively. The Pseudomonas aeruginosa ATCC 27853T was prone to all ethyl acetate extracts. A 1-undecene showed a moderate activity against E. coli ATCC 25922Tand P. aeruginosa ATCC 27853T at 50 μg/mL. The present finding would be a breakthrough to studies of similar works in Ethiopia since it may be for the first time.

Differentiation and Identification of Endophytic Bacteria from Populus Based on Mass Fingerprints and Gene Sequences.

Plant endophytic bacteria play important roles in plants' growth and resistance to stress. It is important to characterize endophytic bacteria to be able to understand their benefits. Matrix-assisted laser desorption ionization-time of flight mass spectrometry (MALDI-TOF MS) has become a powerful technique for bacterial identification due to its high throughput and simple procedures. In this study, the endophytic bacteria separated from Populus (the leaves, roots and stems of Populus tomentosa Carrière; stems of Populus nigra Linn. var. nigra; and stems of Populus canadensis Moench) were identified and classified based on MALDI-TOF MS data and 16S rRNA gene sequencing. The sampling and preparation of bacteria were optimized to obtain meaningful protein mass fingerprints. The composite correlation index (CCI) values of the inter-genera and inter-species protein mass fingerprints demonstrated sufficient differences between the strains. In the CCI value matrix for ten species in the same genus, all the CCI values were less than 0.5. Among the species, 95.6% of all the CCI values were less than 0.5. After data processing, the classification capacity of the protein mass fingerprints was verified using inter-specific and inter-generic PCoA. To compare different methods' potential for differentiation and phylogenetic analysis, a dendrogram of the MS profiles and a phylogenetic tree based on the 16S rRNA gene sequences were constructed using 61 endophytic bacteria found in Populus. The clustering and grouping results show that the phylogenetic analysis based on MALDI-TOF MS is similar to that based on 16S rRNA gene sequencing. This study provides a valuable reference for differentiating and identifying endophytic bacteria according to their protein mass fingerprints.

Isolations andAntibacterial Tests of Aloe Vera Endophytic Bacteria (Aloe barbadensis miller) towards Staphylococcus aureus and Eschericia coli

Research in the field of microbiology regarding the identification of endophytic bacteria in aloe vera is still rarely carried out while many people in East Nusa Tenggara often use aloe vera to cure diseases. The purpose of this study was to identify the endophytic bacteria Aloe barbadensis miller and to determine its antibacterial ability against the growth of Staphylococcus aureus and Escsherichia coli bacteria.  The research procedures included taking samples using purposive sampling method, isolating endophytic bacteria using streak plate method, testing the antibacterial potential against Staphylococcus aureus and Eschericia coli using the paper disc diffusion method. The results showed that endophytic bacteria found on aloe vera leaves were marked by the growth of several bacterial colonies on Murashige-Skoog media with different shapes and colors, then the colonies were separated and 8 isolates were obtained with isolate codes C1B, C2B, C3B, C4B, C5B, C6B, C7B and C8B. The results of the antibacterial potency test showed that isolates C1B, C3B, C5B and C8B had the potential to inhibit the growth of Staphylococcus aureus characterized by the presence of a clear zone on the surface of the media with the largest size being 20 mm in isolate C1B and the smallest clear zone being 7 mm in isolate C8B, while isolate C1B, C3B, C5B and C8B have the potential to inhibit the growth of Eschericia coli bacteria characterized by the presence of a clear zone on the surface of the media with the largest size of 10 mm in isolate C1B and the smallest clear zone of 7 mm in isolate C8B. The conclusion of this study is that endophytic bacteria have been identified in aloe vera and some of these bacteria have antibacterial abilities against the growth of Staphylococcus aureus and Escherichia coli bacteria.

Isolation and Identification of Endophytic Bacteria from Okra Plant and Evaluation of Its Efficiency Against Spiny Bollworm Erias insulana (Boisd)

Twenty-eight endophytic bacteria were isolated from Okra plant grown in several regions in Salah El-Din-governorate fields including Balad, Ishaqi, Tikrit and Baiji. Bacterial cell treatment of isolate SB1 gave the highest rates of mortality on the third instar larvae of the spiny bollworm E. insulana reached to 66.66%, followed by isolate SB 3, which reached to 53.33%, while the isolates ST2, ST5, ST6, SB4, SJ2, SJ3, SJ5, SS2, SS3, as well as the control did not achieve any mortality rate. The results of the treatment of bacterial filtrates in the third instar larvae of the spiny bollworm showed the highest mortality rate was 93.33% by the isolate SB1, followed by 80.00% by the isolate SB3, while the filtrates of bacterial isolates SS5, SS1, SJ7, SJ3, SB5, ST4, and ST3 did not achieve any mortality rate. The results of the molecular diagnosis according to the nucleotide sequence analysis of the 16S rRNA gene and the conformity with the strains recorded in the World Genetic Bank (NCBI) showed the highest bacterial isolates in killing the insect, which included the isolates SB1, SB3, SB6, SJ6, and ST7 return to the species Brevibacillus laterosporus, Bacillus amyloliquefaciens, Bacillus thuringiensis, Bacillus subtilis and Lysinibacillus sphaericus and recorded in the World Genetic Bank under the accession numbers ON844995.1, ON844985.1, ON844996.1, ON844994.1. ON845438.1, respectively.

PENGEMBANGAN MODUL MIKROBIOLOGI BERBASIS INKUIRI TERBIMBING BERDASARKANHASIL PENELITIAN BAKTERI ENDOFIT DARI TUMBUHAN

This research and development aims to develop a valid and effective Microbiology module based guide inquiry on research on Isolation and Identification of Endophytic Bacteria from Ciplukan. The microbiology module was developed in reference to the ADDIE research and development model. The module drafting phase includes:1) the analyzing step through interviews with lecturers and the questionnaire of needs analysis by student respondents; 2) The step of designing learning modules to improve cognitive knowledge and process skills; 3) The step of developing by using module validation; 4) The step of applying which consists of module implementation in learning; 5) The evaluation step which consists of evaluating the validity of modules, cognitive learning outcomes and student science process skills. The results of the study show that the microbiology module developed accordance with the standards of validity, feasibility and practicality.

Isolation and identification of endophytic bacteria from potato tissues and their effects as biological control agents against bacterial wilt

Ralstonia solanacearum, as a causative agent of potato wilt disease, is one of the deadliest diseases worldwide, and also in the Kurdistan province, Iran. Given the importance of the disease, the aim of the present study was to isolate endophytic bacteria from potato plant tissues such as the tuber, root, stem, and leaf, to investigate their antagonistic effects on R. solanacearum. In this regard, 236 endophytic bacteria were isolated and screened in vitro. As a result, 31 isolates were found as potential antagonists against potato wilt pathogen. For phenotypic and genotypic characterization, biochemical and pathogenicity tests as well as 16S rRNA gene sequence analyses were performed. 11 isolates as representatives of different taxa were selected for further investigations. These were identified as: Bacillus pumilus Bp91, B. pumilus Bp1, B. pumilus Bp49, B. licheniformis Bl17, Paenibacillus peoriae Pa86, Pseudomonas brassicacearum Psb101, P. brassicacearum Ps169, P. putida Ps52, Chryseobacterium indologenes Ch54, C. lathyri Chl98, and Microbacterium phyllosphaerae Mi41. Notably, the maximum inhibitory effects were observed by Pseudomonas brassicacearum Psb101, P. brassicacearum Ps169, Paenibacillus peoriae Pa86, Pseudomonas putida Ps52, and Bacillus licheniformis Bl17, by forming 17.6, 17.4, 17.3, 15.5, 15.2 mm diameter inhibition zones against R. solanacearum on nutrient agar medium, respectively. Based on the results of the greenhouse test, all 11 selected isolates simultaneously reduced the disease by 27–55% and also significantly increased plant growth.Among these, the five strains Pseudomonas brassicacearum Psb101, P. brassicacearum Ps169, P. putida Ps52, Paenibacillus peoriae Pa86, and Bacillus licheniformis Bl17 were introduced hereby as the most effective antagonists and growth enhancers under both laboratory and greenhouse conditions.

Potential of some endophytic bacteria in biological control of root-knot nematode Meloidogyne incognita

BackgroundRoot-knot nematodes (Meloidogyne spp.) are among the most important plant pathogens. Biological control is one of the safety and effective methods for control of these nematodes. The aim of the present study was the isolation and identification of endophytic bacteria from tomato fields in some areas of Iran in order to evaluate their biocontrol potential against root-knot nematode. In the present study, the population of Meloidogyne was collected from infected cucumber roots of a greenhouse, and the bacteria were isolated from tomato samples collected from the fields in West-Azarbaijan province of Iran. The effects of the bacterial isolates on hatching and mortality of nematode second-stage juveniles were evaluated, and the effects of six selected isolates on infection of a susceptible cultivar of tomato with nematode were evaluated under greenhouse conditions.ResultsThe root-knot nematode was identified as Meloidogyne incognita. Results showed that the all isolates exhibited considerable inhibitory effects on nematode hatching. The bacterial isolates also caused the mortality of juveniles. Six bacterial isolates with notable biocontrol potential were selected, and supplementary experiments and molecular identification of selected bacterial isolates were performed. Isolates 1, 2, 5, 7, 10, and 11 were identified as follows: Bacillus wiedmannii (MW405861), Pseudoxantomonas mexicana (MW405860), Pseudomonas thivervalensis (MW405862), Serratia liquefaciens (MW405864), Pseudomonas chlororaphis (MW405863), and P. fluorescens (MW405825), respectively. Based on the results of the greenhouse experiment, the selected isolates exhibited good results in terms of reduction of galls and egg masses of nematode. However, B. wiedmannii and S. liquefaciens had the best results in reduction of all investigated factors compared to other isolates. P. mexicana, P. chlororaphis, and P. fluorescens resulted moderate effects. P. thivervalensis was less effective than the others and in some cases had no effect on nematode reduction.ConclusionsThe results showed that endophytic bacteria are good candidates for management of root-knot nematodes. The use of such agents instead of chemicals will be very valuable to the control of nematodes.

IDENTIFICATION OF ENDOPHYTIC BACTERIA OF SEEDS FROM Cedrela odorata L. (Meliaceae) WITH BIOTECHNOLOGICAL CHARACTERISTICS

In the present study, 62 endophytic bacterial strains of cedar seeds (Cedrela odorataL.), collected in the municipalities of Huehuetán, Motozintla, and Pijijiapan in the state of Chiapas, Mexico were isolated. The goal was to identify characteristics of biotechnological interest such as biocontrol, promotion of plant growth, and growth in aromatic compounds. The strains were identified by the partial sequence of the 16S ribosomal gene as belonging to the Bacillusgenus. The biocontrol capacity of phytopathogenic fungi, production of indoleacetic acid (IAA), solubilization of phosphate, and growth in xenobiotic compounds (phenanthrene, benzene, anthracene, or phenol) were detected in 26 strains of the 62 isolates. 21 % of the strains inhibited the mycelial growth of Alternaria solaniand Fusariumsp., and 13 % of the Phytophthora capsicioomycete. IAA production was detected in 24 isolates, phosphate solubilizing activity was identified in 18 isolates, while the ability to grow in the presence of phenanthrene and benzene was found in 26 isolates; 24 isolates grew in the presence of anthracene and only two isolates grew in phenol as the only carbon sources. This is the first report of the isolation and identification of endophytic bacteria from cedar seeds, where biotechnological characteristics were detected for biological control, promotion of plant growth, and growth in the presence of xenobiotic compounds.

Isolation and Identification of Endophytic Bacteria from Mycorrhizal Tissues of Terrestrial Orchids from Southern Chile

Endophytic bacteria are relevant symbionts that contribute to plant growth and development. However, the diversity of bacteria associated with the roots of terrestrial orchids colonizing Andean ecosystems is limited. This study identifies and examines the capabilities of endophytic bacteria associated with peloton-containing roots of six terrestrial orchid species from southern Chile. To achieve our goals, we placed superficially disinfected root fragments harboring pelotons on oatmeal agar (OMA) with no antibiotic addition and cultured them until the bacteria appeared. Subsequently, they were purified and identified using molecular tools and examined for plant growth metabolites production and antifungal activity. In total, 168 bacterial strains were isolated and assigned to 8 OTUs. The orders Pseudomonadales, Burkholderiales, and Xanthomonadales of phylum Proteobacteria were the most frequent. The orders Bacillales and Flavobacteriales of the phylla Firmicutes and Bacteroidetes were also obtained. Phosphate solubilization was detected in majority of isolates; however, it was significantly higher in Collimonas pratensis and Chryseobacterium sp. (PSI = 1.505 ± 0.09 and 1.405 ± 0.24, respectively). Siderophore production was recorded only for C. pratensis (0.657 ± 0.14 mm day−1), Dyella marensis (0.131 ± 0.02 mm day−1), and Luteibacter rhizovicinus (0.343 ± 0.12 mm day−1). Indole acetic acid production was highly influenced by the isolate identity; however, the significantly higher activity was recorded for Pseudomonas spp. (ranging from 5.507 ± 1.57 µg mL−1 to 7.437 ± 0.99 µg mL−1). Additionally, six bacterial isolates were able to inhibit the growth of some potential plant pathogenic fungi. Our findings demonstrate the potential for plant growth promoting capabilities and some antifungal activities of endophytic bacteria inhabiting the mycorrhizal tissue of terrestrial orchids, which may contribute especially at early developmental stages of orchid seedlings.

Identification of endophytic bacteria in medicinal plants and their antifungal activities against food spoilage fungi

Endophytes are fungi or bacteria living in the intracellular parts of the plants. In this study, 12 medicinal plants were examined for the presence of endophytic bacteria. Antifungal activities of the isolates were determined against Aspergillus flavus PTCC 5006, Penicillium citrinum PTCC 5304, Aspergillus fumigatus PTCC 5006, Fusarium oxysporum MTCC 284, and Rhizopus stolonifer. In order to determine the metabolites characteristics of these isolates, catalase and proteolytic enzyme treatments were assessed. Moreover, approximate molecular weights of the antifungal substance were measured by fractionation method and the volatile compounds were determined by using GC-mass spectroscopy. Finally, 16s rRNA gene sequencing confirmed the strain of the bacteria. Twenty-one endophytic bacteria, out of a total of 82 isolates, showed antifungal activities against all five spoilage fungi. The results of the PCR assay revealed two species: Bacillus pumilus and B. safensis. Proteolytic enzyme activities and the fractionation of the supernatants proved that more than one compound was responsible for the antifungal activities. This compound could be proteins, peptides, and other low-molecular compounds, such as Butanal, 3-methyl-, Propene, 2-butene, 2-heptanone, 6-methyl-5-methylene-, and 6-oxabicyclo[3.1.0] hexane, which all were identified in the headspace of the GC-mass spectroscopy.

In vitro establishment of shoot meristems of Ilex paraguariensis and identification of endophytic bacteria

Yerba mate (Ilex paraguariensis A. St.-Hil.) is a species of great economic, social and environmental importance for the southern regions of Brazil, Uruguay and Argentina. Currently the most diverse products are obtained from mate leaves, including mate tea. The objective of this study was to establish shoot meristem cultures (meristematic dome and a few primordia) of elite clones and identify the endophytic bacteria present in the explants. We tested the effect of clones (F1, F2, A03 and A07), culture media (MS, 1/2MS, 1/4MS and WPM), cytokinins (kinetin, BA and 2iP), activated charcoal (1, 2 and 3 g L−1), and disinfecting agent (sodium hypochlorite and mercuric chloride) on in vitro establishment. F1 and F2 clones were the most responsive for shoot meristem in vitro culture. WPM medium supplemented with 8.8 µM 2iP, 0.2 µM NAA and 3 g L−1 activated charcoal was the most suitable for the in vitro establishment of the F1 clone. No phytotoxic effect of the disinfectant was observed and some meristems sprouted. The isolated endophytic bacterium was identified for the first time in yerba mate as Agrobacterium larrymoorei. To conclude, we were able to establish in vitro culture of yerba mate using meristems as explants but the tissues were not free of endophytic microorganisms which could interfere with explant response.

Characterization, identification and antibiogram studies of endophytic bacteria from cowpea [Vigna unguiculata (L.) Walp]

This study included isolation, characterization and identification of endophytic bacteria from cowpea [Vigna unguiculata (L.) Walp] roots from Hathazari upazilla, Chittagong, Bangladesh and three specis of bacteria, Staphylococcus intermedius, Staphylococcus caprae and Staphylococcus saprophyticus were finally identified based on their morphological and biochemical characteristics according to established protocol. Results of antibiotic sensitivity pattern of those endophytic bacteria suggested that they can be utilized as a cost-effective biological control agent in future applications, such as delivery of enzymes for controlling certain plant diseases against various pathogens. Isolation and Identification of Endophytic Bacteria with Plant Growth Promoting Activity and Biocontrol Potential from Wild Pistachio Trees.

In this study, samples were collected from the leaves and stems of healthy wild Pistachio trees (Pistacia atlantica L.) from various locations of Baneh and Marivan regions, Iran. In total, 61 endophytic bacteria were isolated and grouped according to phenotypic properties. Ten selected isolates from each group were further identified by partial sequencing of the 16S rRNA gene. Based on the results, isolates were identified as bacteria belonging to Pseudomonas, Stenotrophomonas, Bacillus, Pantoea and Serratia genus. The ability of these isolates was evaluated to phytohormone production such as auxin and gibberellin, siderophore production, phosphate solubilization, atmospheric nitrogen fixation, protease and hydrogen cyanide production. All strains were able to produce the plant growth hormone auxin and gibberellin in different amounts. The majority of strains were able to solubilize phosphate. The results of atmospheric nitrogen fixation ability, protease and siderophore production were varied among strains. Only Ba66 could produce a low amount of hydrogen cyanide. The results of biocontrol assay showed that Pb78 and Sp15 strains had the highest and lowest inhibition effects on bacterial plant pathogens, Pseudomonas syringae pv. syringae Pss20 and Pseudomonas tolaasii Pt18 under in vitro condition. Pb3, Pb24 and Pb71 strains significantly promote root formation on carrot slices. To our knowledge this is the first report of the isolation of endophytic bacterial strains belonging to Pantoea, Bacillus, Pseudomonas, Serratia and Stenotrophomonas genus from wild pistachio trees with plant growth promoting potential and biocontrol activity.

Endphytic microbes are microscopic living organisms (bacteria and fungi) that live in plant tissues (xylem and phloem), leaves, roots, fruit, and stems. These microbes live symbiosis of mutual benefit. Morus macroura miq. or Andaleh is a native plant of western Sumatra that is considered rare. The purpose of this study was to isolate and identify entophytic bacteria found in young leaves and old leaves andaleh taken from the village Andaleh, Kec. Batipuah West Sumatra. The methods used to isolate endophytic bacteria from andaleh leaves are spread plate and streak plate. Identification of endophytic bacteria in macroscopic or colony morphology. A total of 12 isolates of endophytic bacteria from young andaleh leaf and 8 isolates of endophytic bacteria from andaleh leaf. Identification Microscopic using gram staining obtained bacteria 18 gram positive endophytic bacterial isolates and 2 isolate gram negative bacteria.

The isolation and identification of endophytic bacteria from mangrove (Sonneratia alba) that produces gelatinase

The purpose of this study was to isolate and to identify endophytic bacteria from Sonneratia alba mangrove which able to produce gelatinase enzyme. Sonneratia alba mangroves was obtained from Bajul Mati Beach, Malang Regency. The samples in this study were, stems, and leaves. Pure cultured bacteria were investigated for its capability for producing gelatinase enzyme by using gelatin media. Best producer would further be analyzed its species using microbact system. Screening process resulted in 3 positive isolates, namely code isolate of R, B, and L. R which was isolate from root of S. alba was the best producer for gelatinase. Identification process with morphology and microbact system revelaed that A. SBM is a Gram-negative bacterium that has a basil cell shape, with a diameter colony of 2.19 mm. Based on the microbact system test carried out, the bacteria is Pseudomonas aeruginosa.

Isolation and identification of endophytic bacteria with plant growth promoting and biocontrol potential from oak trees

SummarySamples of roots, leaves and stems of healthy oak trees were collected from various locations in the Baneh and Marivan regions, Iran. In total, 63 endophytic bacteria were isolated and grouped according to phenotypic properties. Seven selected isolates were further identified by partial sequencing of the 16S rRNA gene. Isolates Pp54, Pp88, Pp95 and Pp177 were Pseudomonas spp., isolates Sm59 and Sm79 were Stenotrophomonas spp., and isolate Bf 172 was a Bacillus sp. The ability of these isolates for plant hormone production such as auxin and gibberellin was evaluated, along with siderophore production, phosphate solubilization, atmospheric nitrogen fixation, protease and hydrogen cyanide production. All strains produced auxin and gibberellin in different amounts. Atmospheric nitrogen fixation ability was positive for strains Sm79, Pp54, Pp88 and Pp95. All strains except Sm79 solubilized phosphate. Strains Sm59, SM79, Pp88, Pp177 and Bf172 produced protease. Pp88, Pp95, Bf172 and Pp177 were able to produce siderophore. Strains Sm79 and Pp95 released low concentrations of hydrogen cyanide. Amongst the strains tested, Pp95, Pp88, Pp177 and Sm79 had different inhibitory effects on the bacterial plant pathogen, Pseudomonas syringae pv. syringae under in vitro conditions. This is the first reported case of endophytic Bacillus, Pseudomonas and Stenotrophomonas strains from oak trees in Iran.
